Compatibility with Soil Microflora
Soil amendments should be compatible with the existing soil microflora and degrade under moderate temperature and moisture conditions. Biodegradation studies have shown that SoilX™ 66 is biodegradable in the presence of common soil bacteria found in agricultural soils and is similar in its degradation rate to casein (milk protein.) 1,2 Some of these bacteria can use the product as a sole carbon source and others can use it as both a sole carbon and nitrogen source. Bacteria

Stable aggregates improve the seedling environment
Stable aggregates help maintain open pore spaces, allowing air, water, and young roots to develop. They provide a more consistent physical environment during those first weeks after planting — when emergence and early root initiation begins. SoilX™ 66 is being used by growers as part of an approach to increase soil aggregate stability and yield. Aggregate formation can be seen in minutes, as shown in these photographs of a high pH (8.0) sodic soil in Yuma, Arizona. We strive

Soil Permeability with SoilX™ 66
Permeability, the process through which water flows through soil while maintaining moisture in the micropores, is improved using SoilX 66. Permeable soils resist run-off and prevent agricultural chemicals from contaminating rivers, causing environmental damage. In the lab, permeability was measured by passing water through a column of the air-dried <0.25 mm fraction of a silt loam. The drained water was collected and measured for 30 minutes. SoilX 66 more than doubled permeab

The Early Seedling Environment
The early life environment of a developing seedling is the center of our work at Water & Soil Conservation, LLC. It’s why we developed SoilX™ 66 — a soil-structure tool growers are using as part of their approach to supporting a favorable physical environment around the seed during those first days in the soil. Friability affects how easily the seedling emerges and how much energy remains for root development. These conditions vary across short distances. Even when planting d

Seedling Vitality and Strength Matter to Us
We’re Water & Soil Conservation. We focus on the environment seedlings face in their first days of life in the soil. This can be a tough place for a vulnerable seedling. The first few days influence plant stand and early development. Our interest is in how the environment around the emerging seedling supports early establishment and root development — and how growers can work to improve it. That focus led to SoilX™ 66 — a water-soluble, biodegradable treatment. Tested on whea
